Babyz has limits on how many toys one can have in the game at once. This can be a problem with all the wonderful things there are out there to download. LNZ based toys like bottles and candy canes can take up so much space with one for each color. But there is something that can be done about it! Variations can make one toy into many different ones. Here is my handy tutorial (WITH PICTURES AND FREE EXAMPLE DOWNLOAD!!!) on how I do it.
Color Variations:
For this one I will show how I used it in my Petz candy canes but the same should apply to Babyz. First I edit the main toy to look like one of the variations I plan on putting into the toy like one would normally do. Next I put somewhere inside the toy file,s LNZ section preferably right above the [Texture List]. Now since I planned to have 5 variations in my toy I would list the variation numbers under and close it off with a double number sign like so-
#5

Next under each one except the first I would list the ball numbers I am changing the color of and the color I am changing them to afterwards. When finished it should look like this-
Now when I take them out of the closet it will randomly pick one of the color variations for the toy to be. If I want a specific color I can just keep putting it back in until I get the one I want. Here is an example. All these came from one toy taking a single closet space.
Texture Variations:
For this bit I shall assume you already know how to add textures to toys that do not have a [Texture List] inside them and have already done so if the toy didn't have one. Here I will show how I used this method for insect bottles for Petz but the same should apply to Babyz. In this one I also have 5 variations so right under [Texture List] but before the actual texture list I put the first variation number and underneath it I would list the rest of the numbers like so-

Linked Variations:
Now that one understands how both color and texture variations work one can link them together to make more complex variations. I shall use my Babyz toy bunny as an example. Long ago I hexed a plain white toy bunny that used cottonwhite.bmp for the main texture and terrypink.bmp inside the ears and had black untextured eyes. I decided I wanted to add 2 more white ones with pink and blue eyes, a brown one with black eyes, and a black one with red for the eyes and inside the ears. I added color variations and texture variations the same method as shown above but now they were all mixed up and I wound up with things brown ones with blue eyes and white ones with red eyes. So now I needed to make them lock so the eyes would only come out with the textures they should. I locked the variations by placing a period and a letter directly after the first variation number in both the and the [Texture List] so it would look like this-
Now when I take them out of the closet it will randomly pick one of the locked variation sets for the toy to be. The white bunny can now have either black, pink or blue eyes, the brown bunny will now only have black eyes and the black bunny with red ears will have red eyes. If I want a specific variation I can just keep putting it back in until I get the one I want. Here is an example. All these came from one toy taking a single closet space.

Unfortunately this will not help with toys that don't use Lnz sections and are only filmstrips but at least now we can have less space taken up by things like bottles and candy canes (or bones). You are not limited to only 5 variations you can put as many as you want but be reasonable since if you put too many like over 10-20 it gets frustrating trying to get the right one. Also you can also add variations to other sections such as [Default Scales] to make preemie sized variations in the same toy. One thing to note is if you are planing to take it into another room just grab any variation. Putting it in and out of the toy chest has the same effect as with the closet. If you have any problems please do not PM me to be hand held. Please put all questions in this thread. Happy Hexing!
