I finished a really sad book last night and when I was trying to decide what to read next, I figured Brody (age 9) might be asking about Harry Potter soon, and I'd like to be able to talk about it with him, so I downloaded all the books to my nook and started reading it this morning! I'm only several pages in so far, they just dropped off baby Harry at the Dursley's, but I am interested and enjoying it so far! I hadn't ever read it yet because when it was first getting popular I thought it sounded weird and too young for me, lol. I know there are tons of HP fans here, so I just had to share that I may soon be joining your ranks <3
I'm about 1/3 of the way through the 3rd book now! I'm really enjoying them! They're fun, fast reads, that manage to surprise me, which is always fun! I'm trying to enjoy them for myself while at the same time thinking of how they would be for Brody to read - I asked Mande and she said she thinks the first 3 would be fine for a 9 year old, but that they keep getting darker as the series progresses. I think the fun and magic helps to balance out the scary elements so far - but I think I vaguely remember an uproar from fans that one of the popular characters dies later in the series - and I KNOW Brody would not handle that well right now, with my grandma having just passed. I'm glad that I had sort of prejudged the series, so that I am a complete newbie to it and can read the books without having seen the movies first! Anyway, I probably would never have picked them up if not for knowing how beloved they are by so many of you here, so thank you for helping me find another book series to love! <3
Okay so now I'm just starting book 5! The last one (Goblet of Fire) was my favorite so far! Really fun story line and some twists that I definitely didn't see coming! Now that I'm getting more attached to all of the characters I'm really starting to worry about who dies! I'm so tempted to google it so I have some warning, lol!
