I come from the world of Petz, where posing shows are quite strict and have rules that everyone (roughly) follows with alignment and poses.
I am still somewhat unsure/confused here, but would love to host a pageant as I have a cute idea (maybe) ^^
Are there any rules I need to know? How does judging work? If its more complicated than it seems, I could ask for a second judge's opinion or maybe a judging another show session (like a mentor)?
I also know that I am awful at posing my own kids, so maybe by learning more of that, I could understand judging better. I'm not sure how to get my baby to do certain poses ^^;;;
Thanks for all your help <3
Edit: I have read the Pageant Info/Help/Standard Rules thread, but it just sounds/seems too simple! Also, I have a hard time recognizing a pose smile vs. not pose smile ^^;; And I can't seem to get my babyz to do other things...
I would say if you're unsure, start with an anything goes type of pageant. These poses can literally be anything and you can judge based on how cute the pictures are or how well they fit the theme. As far as judging standard pageants, everyone has their own preferences. Some people are more strict about higher placements than others. I know I typically place the wide smile pictures higher, but not always. Some really like the squishy face or the large o face. It's really a judgement call, and there's no right way to do it. Although keep in mind there should be fewer BIS and 1st place awards than 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
Go for it and host one! If you need help or have questions you can definitely PM me!
I would do what Bobbi Jo suggests for sure! Start with some Anything Goes pageants & it may be helpful to look at older pageants judged as well for standard poses since they are all archived!
Some people judge by whoever fits the theme the best and then post, others try to do pose first and then theme, etc. it's up to you as a judge! I personally try to do any of the more traditional big mouth wide eye poses with the best fitting them first!
& as long as you put a tag in it, some of us have had our spouse, children, etc. help judge too!
If you have any questions or need help with this or that or judging unsureness feel free to PM me too! <3
Thor, you need at least 8 entries before judging so you can place all of the placements. We typically say about a week, but some pageants can take longer to gain entries (especially when the area is a little slower like now). After a period of time, staff may bump the pageant to remind you to judge it.

this has made me realise we need a straightforward beginners' guide to hosting pageants. i have my best friend visiting until the end of tomorrow, but i will create a guide on monday/tuesday after i update bcrs!
Thank you for answering my questions. I'll be sure to check in with ya'll before I judge/close just to make sure I'm awarding the right amount of slots, etc. ^^ I figured the best way to learn is just to jump in!
Another question, do judges get points for judging or some sort of compensation?
