BMP Hairstyles With Gimp (solved)

I recently saw Riley's tutorial on BMP hairstyles and tried this with gimp however failed. I think it's my brush because no matter what settings I use it isnt a straight edged line and blends the colors together when I try to make strand sections.

I'm a little unclear, is the issue that you've only got fuzzy-edged brushes, basically? You may have to turn off aliasing (not sure how to do that in GIMP, but I know you can because I used to do pixel dolls haha).

Can you either change the brush shape to square, or change the size to 1 and draw it pixel by pixel?

Yes, that's because it has anti-aliasing enabled. Anti-aliasing smooths out edges visually with that fuzzy color-fade thing, but isn't helpful if you're doing little pixelly graphics like this. If you use the pencil tool it should go pixel-by-pixel, without the anti-aliasing, but you should also be able to turn it off for brushes, which will make the edges jagged and solid. I don't use GIMP anymore, so I can't say how, but a quick Google should help there.

I finally got it figured out lol I knew to use pencil but my pencil tool was hiding lol. I will post updates on my hairstyle. It is in sketch mode right now. I can do buns great but cant seem to draw the strands I'm so close to giving up but I shouldn't because it's looking great so far and I want to be able to give back to the community and make smiles on people's faces with my hexies
