As someone who's still relatively new to the BC and to Milk, I'm curious to hear of any stories of how things were in the 'olden days' of the Babyz Community. Whether they're nostalgic or awful or just funny I would really like to hear how it was. <3
We were all brats. Just picture about 100 teenage girls in a room, that was us. The BC was a lot bigger then, and most of us were between 11-15. ALL THE DRAMA. There were separate forums competing with each other. People had to write long, extensive forms to adopt a baby, detailing how they were going to care for them and why they wanted them (which for, btw, being cute was not a good enough reason to want a baby haha you basically had to write a novella about how your baby wanted a sister so badly. It was ridiculous.)
I remember there was a "godparent" thing of sorts and people would become godparents which now I can't remember what it meant? I think sometimes people would rehome to them or do playdates more often?
I also remember being trampled on if I messed up a rule or if I spelled something wrong or something small lol.
ON A GOOD NOTE. My favorite thing about the BC was all the websites!! I think the waybackmachine has some more of the popular ones still on it and they still have functional downloads!! Which, thank goodness for that because I lovvvve some older downloads still!
It definitely wasn’t all bad. It was a lovely place to grow up, an incredibly accepting place. I made a lot of lifelong friends! What I remember fondly was how enthusiastic we all were. You got loads of comments on your family banners. Pageants were a Big Deal, and awards were more important than points. Having the adoption process be so strict was hard, but it also made it super exciting when you got a baby! Imagine filling out an extensive form, and competing with a dozen other girls and their forms! People kept their families smaller, but there were also a LOT more members, so it was easier to rehome babyz. GUEST BOOKS! Remember? We all had guest books on our websites, and it was a big deal to sign them. Babyz Top 50 was also a big deal, you always encouraged people to vote for your site. It was very popular to have the website from the babyz point of view, and have a find-it game where you would have to scour the website looking for a babyz lost toy, and were awarded with a banner and sometimes an exclusive download. I miss websites! Although I don’t miss fighting the html and making the graphics in your frames line up just right.

A lot of this was true for Petz, too. I was always in the Petz community more then and the long-app forms and the excitement of being picked after filling something out / making art / trades / a bunch of work was really fulfilling!
There were also "Top 50/100" site places for Petz and find-its with awards such as exclusive downloads, etc.
I remember in the BC the kids I ended up with were mostly from hatties and/or from people taking requests that basically did them for the first 10 people/etc. I was an extra newb in the babyz community because I spent more time in the PC. And then when something seemed hard to get, I basically just stayed out because I for some reason had the impression that I was on hot water or was disliked by people all the time. Probably because of something I did but I always felt like I was trying really hard to follow the rules, idk. xD
But yep good stuff.
I remember the kiddos I got from Funkalicious were form babies and I was SO excited when I was picked for them, lol.
Also remember that I got a TON of comments on family threads and stuff and it made me feel super excited, lol. And the person who was "godparent" to one of my kids was basically my BFF and we were BFF BC newbs together, basically. lol.
I’m so glad the pc and bc don’t require writing novels for adopting anymore haha. After writing 1 or 2 apps I’m just not sure what I can write anymore about babyz that doesn’t sound like me repeating myself.
Anyway, I’ve only been here for almost 2 years so I can’t talk about the old BC. But it’s interesting to hear about! I like how the forum grows up with the game. Unlike say, Animal Crossing forums where I imagine it’s a good mix of adults and kids, the pc and bc seemed to be mostly kids and are now mostly adults/college age kids.
Edit: samia mentioned websites and I’d love to see sites revived again. I browse them once in a blue moon but it’s interesting to see everyones!

I remember with the sites there was also a Baby of the Week section where you could write a massive paragraph about why your baby should win BOTW which was kind of cute. Find it games were the best.
I'd love it if sites came back but frames... all the frames... and hosts. geocities wow that is a blast from the past.
