I haven't been scared of this or super worried or anything, but for months. Since I was like, near the age of 16 (I'll be 17 in August), I've had just black period blood. It doesn't ever start red. It's always black. I know black blood is old blood, but I can't possibly have that much old blood in my body? That just doesn't sound realistic. It turns a dark red toward the end of my periods, and sometimes it's a little lighter in color. But usually it's very dark and thick. And there's always chunks in the blood. Like, the kind you see in miscarriages? But not from a miscarriage. I have no idea why my blood is this way, and again it doesn't super worry me. But I just wanna know why it's that way? I've done some research, but it just tells me black blood is old blood and chunks are found in miscarriages. So idk. I have no clue. Like, I just got a period today and the blood is just straight up black. It had some red in it earlier, but mostly black. It's just so odd.
hiya! i'm no expert so this is just purely from my own experience
any "chunks" i get with my period are just the uterine lining that had been forming before you get your period - sometimes it gets absorbed back into the body & sometimes it doesn't & the chunks come out..
a couple years ago i rang my mum in a panic coz like .. idk but it was quite a BIG bit that had come out & it was almost like, a thick flap of skin like i FELT it come out in the shower & was like oh my fucking god am i dying
so i rang mum & she just laughed at me a bit hahaha ;__; she's like don't worry, it happens!
& then yeah, my periods always range in colour - sometimes the whole time it'll be quite red/thin/proper blood-like, other times even from day 1 or 2 til the end it's like, the brown thick stuff, or a combination of both (bright red at the start for a few days then into the brown).
Omg why are periods so weird ;-; I wish it could just look a certain way so nobody has to worry. But I'm glad my body isn't all messed up! Black blood happening every month for so long gets a little concerning.
I'm also no expert but I tried doing a little research. It looks like it could also be from infections (but I'm assuming no if it's always like this?) or stress/depression and medication change. So if you're on the pill maybe that could be affecting it? Periods are weird xD I remember a doctor asking me if my blood looked purple once lol. I wish there were an easier way to figure out if somehing is "normal."
I don't believe it could be an infection in my case. It's been going on for a very long time now. But it could be stress, actually. I stress over small things constantly and I have this constant worry in my mind. But I never linked that to my odd periods. Purple periods, though? That sounds way weird. Like, I didn't know purple blood was a thing.
Mine has always been kinda "gritty" like super dark brown but with sandy bits (I use a cup so I can see it liquefied vs absorbed). But I have endometriosis, so that is normal for me. Depending on when you're seeing the color (on a tissue, in the bottom on the toilet, on a tampon/pad) it could also be the way your body's chemical makeup reacts to the chemical make up if the product itself. I'm a bit of a hippie of you haven't already guessed it, so I'd try to go the less chemical organic option and see if it is any different.
I haven't even gotten mine in like two months and I'm pretty sure its due to stress? Like I've heard that is a thing and I've been pretty much on my feet nonstop since we have two weeks till fiddler goes up. At least I can be 100% certain im not pregnant or that would be concerning.
I also get a lot of "chunks" come out when I'm on my period, but Kazzie is exactly right it's just little parts of the lining of the uterus. My period changes, like sometimes it's really dark and sometimes the blood is bright red. I've found that it often depends on how stressed I've been. When I've had a stressful time it's often a lot darker and a lot thicker. When I've not been stressed, for instance when I'm off, it is often bright red and thinner.
i just saw this (so totally late) but i wanted to add that i actually have this as well! so you're definitely not the only 'weird' one lol! if it's more black/brown, then it's old, if it's black then it's just thicker. sort of like how some people have a lighter flow and others have a heavier flow.
it's probably just stress or just how your body is doing it. i have anxiety so it's very likely that that's why i have a similar problem if it is stress-related. i'd say if it's accompanied by any sort of itching or pain, then it might be an infection, otherwise it's either just stress or that's your particular period. if it's fine and just super dark, i wouldn't worry <3
