there was some talk lately of making an official babyz/bc dictionary of all the terminology we use here, and i thought it was a great idea! hopefully this will help any newbies or returning oldies who are confused about the words they're seeing around milk ♥
if you have a question or a suggestion for a word which you feel should be added to the bc dictionary, you can simply comment below and let us know!
-A-
addballz/addballs
a hexing term, normally referring to the balls that make up a baby's hairstyle. can also be used to describe addball-based clothing items which are 3D clothing items shaped with balls, such as tutus, headbands, bows, and most accessories, and addball-based toy items, such as the game teddy bears and dolls.
adopt out
to put a baby up for adoption. normally refers to a baby who used to be in your babyz family, but can also refer to a baby you hexed for adoption.
asot/asotv
an acronym for "as seen on tv," which was a babyz forum that much of the community used before milk existed. asotv was very different from milk as it was hosted on voyforums, which had a format where everything that the members posted was all on one page. all new posts would show up at the top of the page and you had to refresh the page to see if anything new was posted.
avatar
the little image to the side of your posts! members often use this to display photos of their babyz but you can put anything there!
-B-
babybook
a folder of babyz photos saved in-game using the "put in babybook" option.
babypix
a different folder of babyz photos saved in-game using the "save" option.
babyz colors/babyz color chart
these are all of the 256 colors that the babyz game allows. because of the coloring limitations, all textures made for the babyz game must be made in 256 color bitmap format. there is a chart of the babyz colors located here. people tend to refer to the colors by their number in the color chart!
badges
the little images underneath your avatar (the smaller ones towards the bottom). these can be earned by completing achievements and then applying for the corresponding badge in this thread.
baldie
a term used to describe bald babyz.
banners
graphics made using photos of your babyz for the purpose of showing them off to the forum! posting banners is often referred to as "showing off" your babyz or "posting an update" of your babyz. "banner" can also refer to the top header graphic on the forum.
bc
"babyz community" (aka us)
bcrs
an acronym for the "babyz community rating system" which is used when babyz compete in pageants! when you enroll your babyz in bcrs, your baby is able to earn points when he or she places in babyz pageants. points and ratings are tracked at the bcrs website.
big smile/wide smile
normally refers to the pageant-style pose where a baby's mouth is formed into a huge wide-eyed :D smile.
blush
an old babyz forum which no longer exists. the members of blush were known for being exclusive and only letting certain people join the forum, and they were also known for occasionally playing light-hearted (okay, and sometimes not so light-hearted) pranks on the rest of the bc.
bmp-based hairstyle
a bmp-based hairstyle is a babyz hairstyle that has been created primarily using drawn images rather than hexed with addballz and linez. these hairstyles often look quite nice but can have a tendency to move unnaturally or strangely in-game. however there are plenty of bmp-based hairstyles that look and move wonderfully as well!
bmp
short for bitmap. this is the only file format that the babyz game accepts when hexing babyz and clothes. most often used in reference to a baby's hair texture.

botb
stands for "battle of the babyz" - a weekly staff-run pageant where two babyz photos face off head-to-head and members vote on the cuter photo by poll.
bottlecaps/caps
this is the (entirely fake) currency we use here on milk! for more information about using caps, please see this thread.
brite
short for "rainbow brite". this is the term for a baby who has unnaturally colored skin. brites are generally extremely colorful and whimsical! this term was invented a very long time ago (before milk) and was an old BC trend! however, you can still find brites in people's families today and occasionally we do have theme weeks dedicated to them!
bubbles/bubble butt/bubble clothing
refers to the little bubbles that attach to a baby when you take them out of the bathtub! they're sometimes called "bubble clothing" because these bubbles are actually .clo files (items of clothing) that you can find in your clothes folder if you haven't removed them.
-C-

carolyn was one of the first people (if not the first) to modify a babyz file and therefore introduce hexing to the community! her website, carolyn's creations, has a ton of super useful information about both babyz and petz!
click/clicking
a baby that you "click" with is essentially just a baby that you connect with or that you really love playing with! clicking is very important and not clicking with a baby is a very valid reason why someone might choose to downsize a baby from their family.
codie/code baby
the term for a completely unhexed and unaltered baby that came from entering a serial code into the game. even though technically all babyz come from codes, the term "codie" or "code baby" refers specifically to babyz who have not been altered or hexed in any way. once a baby has been hexed, they are no longer considered a code baby. the only exception is sometimes people will use the term for babyz who have had their eyes or bobble colors hexed but still have a default game hairstyle.
copyright
a silly thing that people used to do back in the pre-milk days. people used to have fights about "copyrighting" their babyz' names, hairstyles, appearances, styles of dress, style of editing, and so on. occasionally people will discuss or make fun of this throughout the forum, especially during throwback thursdays or throwback weeks!
-D-
downsize
to remove a baby or multiple babyz from your babyz family, or just to make your family smaller in general.
-E-

eyeshines/eye sparkles
these are sparkles or "shines" that people draw on babyz' eyes to make them look shiny or more realistic. at this moment there is no natural-looking way to actually hex on eyeshines, so most eyeshines you see will be drawn on.
