viavoice fix and microphone workaround!

so i was trying to install viavoice on my new pc today and it was doing the usual annoying thing where you double click setup and nothing happens. i opened task manager and noticed that it was trying to launch the setup in the background processes but for some reason it wasn't working. so i did a VERY specific google and discovered that it's really common (as most of us are aware from constant viavoice battles through the years rofl) and there is a way to solve it!!

SO if your viavoice setup is not opening on windows, simply do the following:

1. open task manager (on windows 10 you can right click on your taskbar and click "task manager")
2. go to the "details" tab
3. scroll down to "setup.exe"
4. right click on "setup.exe" and click "analyze wait chain"
5. the program that is listed below the setup in the box that pops up is the program that is causing viavoice setup to not open. simply close that program with the task manager or quit it manually and viavoice setup should launch instantly!

i feel like this is a breakthrough!! let me know if this works for you guys next time you have this issue <3

okay i also just found a workaround for not having a mic on this computer so i'm gonna include that here as well in case it helps anyone who is also micless!

if you don't have a mic but you do have speakers, it's possible to reroute your sound input setting (aka the thing that hears sound, like a mic) to come from your speakers, so whenever you play sound on your computer, babyz can hear it like a microphone.

to make this work just do the following:

1. go to control panel
2. click system, then sound
3. scroll down to where it says "input" and choose your speakers from the dropdown box (mine says "stereo mix" here instead of speakers).
4. underneath the dropdown box is a little "test your microphone" area. play some music or something on your computer and if the bar shows color then it worked and your computer can now hear that sound like a microphone! that means babyz can also hear it.

please note that i've only tried this with windows 10 and external speakers, so i'm not sure if it works on other versions of windows or if you only have internal/built-in speakers. but it's worth a try!!

unfortunately not as there's always been one there when this happens to me. sometimes it pops up and then goes away really fast so you might need to catch it before it goes away!

okay, setting up babyz on our family computer..

do you happen to remember what the program was called that was causing via voice not to open? I tried the fix you posted, but mine is telling me that setup.exe is running normally - nothing listed below it when I analyze wait chain. It will go to 100% but nothing else ends up opening, and then setup.exe disappears from the task manager.

Edit: So I'm not sure exactly what I did, but it is working now! This is the first time I've not had to plug in a microphone, it's just letting me talk and registering the sound so there must be a built in mic? We'll see how it works once I have my files transferred over and try to get some pictures!

Leaving this for reference in case anyone else has a similar problem, I downloaded the vvccr folder from another thread (I'll try to come back and edit later with which thread specifically it was), and I went in to that vvccr folder directly to click on the setup, instead of just trying to "unpack" the viavoice file that looks like a cardboard box. that time the setup file went to 100% and then actually launched!

Also a situation that happened to me that wouldn't let me launch the installer:

A message pops up that says "Error 432. Setup has detected that unInstallShield is in use. Please close unInstallShield and restart setup."

Go into your My Computer and go to This PC > Windows (C:) > Windows and look for a file titled "IsUninst". Delete this and your setup should start normally!

My Babyz copy of ViaVoice installed just fine, but it made Petz 4 crash until I uninstalled it.
I'd like to be able to talk to my Petz and Babyz, but I'm not sure what exactly that entails. I don't remember it doing much.

I’m not sure if it will fix the petz issue but I have to run my Babyz game as an administrator. Also reinstall Petza.
