Can we get a list of items created by players and what is recolorable and what is not? For example- ages ago I created the flower headbands- at the time, I only allowed rehexing with permission, now, I'd love to see more of them. There are several different bows floating about, and a couple I am unsure of (Liz's?) as well as hats. I'd really like to rehex a "kitty hat" but am unsure of the creator and if it is allowed. Also- will clothes items even become like books and lose "copyright" after so much time has passed from an inactive hexer? Just a morning ponder, it is perfectly fine if the answer is no. =)
I think this would be something good to discuss, but ssfor some reason I'm gueing most people would be against rehexing a base of someone who is no longer active. It's sort of like if a member was gone long enough we could put their haircodes up for everyone to use? I'm thinking they are similar concepts and not everyone would be okay with that. I'm not saying I'm against the idea though, just so you know. Haha, I think it would be rather useful personally, but I just feel it might make clothes hexers uncomfortable. xD
As for the kitty hats, I think they were hexed by Twincy, but I'm not sure if they were recolorable. There might already be a list out there but I can't remember off the top of my head. I only learned to hex clothes myself recently! I hope someone can help you out
I completely understand if others are against it. I was just thinking bases from say from five plus years of inactivity might be able to be archived for others to use. Credits still being given of course. And those that stay active or at least pop in evert few years could still keep theirs as "copy written". Just a thought, like I said. Hair codes, while similar, in my opinion are a whole different story. They are used for an individual baby that belongs to one person. Clothes are usually up for grabs- for anyone to use once created. But those are just my thoughts. If others disagree, no worries.

Liz's floppy bow is only recolorable by a few certain people that she gave exclusive permission to. I believe there is a bow by Kirsty/mushoom that is rehexable, but I'm not sure where you'd download it or if her site still exists. '
Yeah, Kirsty does have a bow that is a bit similar to Liz's that is recolorable. If you're looking for one to grab as a base for rehexing, you can grab it from one of my sets in my mootique on Babyz.org My four most recent sets all at the top use Kirsty's bow. She also has a beaded necklace and beaded bracelet that are rehexable without permission, you only need to give credit to use any of the three bases.
I can confirm that the kitty hats were hexed by Twincy and they are recolorable without permission. I stumbled upon their download site years ago before it was taken down and it said all of their bases were rehexable without permission, but credit was required. They said you could also use their bases as a starting-point for editing further into a new form, if you like. But you have to give them credit for starting from their base (so you can't claim you made the base entirely from scratch by yourself, basically).
Twincy had ties and some other cute bases, too. There's also bear hats that were made by Chelsey, likewise recolorable without permission but credit is needed.
As for bases that are not allowed that I see a lot of people mention are Alison's. Some of Liz's are rehexable, some are not. She states on the first page of her mootique which are and which aren't.
Regarding the thing about inactive user bases, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that kind of what happened with bUggz? Because when I look through old threads from like 2007-2008, it shows bUggs were only recolorable by three people who had permission from Bekah (Liz, LK and Laura) and then a discussion thread was started and it seems the community decided they should become free to recolor so long as credit was given?
I totally agree with Mande. In the real world, copyrights are only good for a certain period of time, even though millions of dollars may have been spent for research, development, and marketing. This is just a game and we all build upon the knowledge base in the BC.
Of course the clothing "inventor" spends a lot of hours developing a new base, but if the base becomes open for further development by others, after a time, only good will come of it as our knowledge base increases as a group and the quality of our "products" get better. I also don't think the BC activity of the original hexer should be a factor. Except that an active hexer may decide to release her base for further development before copyright limits are up. As we all know, the biggest reason for copyrights in the first place is so that the original inventor/investor can hopefully recoup their investment and make a nice profit, thus giving inventor/investors incentive to constantly come up with new and better products. Myself, I don't see the purpose for not sharing Babyz game bases for recoloring and future enhancements so long as credit is given.
I propose we develop a Wall of Fame for all the wonderful hexers the BC has seen and their contribution. I also propose that the original hexer of a base ALWAYS be given credit in the file name or notes. I further hope that this discussion pertaining to copyright limits be continued and a logical one size fits most solution be found.
I am unable to see this thread, but as we seem to be less active as of lately and could use some pick me up- I am curious how the other active users feel about this. I am not trying to step on toes or "hair flip" by any means. If the consensus is not in favor, I am not going anywhere. I just think we could bring some "spice" back to the game if there were more options for those of us who enjoy hexing, but don't have time to create complex new bases. I spent the better part of three days worth of naps attempting to hex a set and finally just had to put it aside because I couldn't do what I wanted with it. I, personally, feel like, while lots of time and effort are put into these, this is a game, and without new content and players, it will eventually die out. To me, it is similar to "the Sims". EA games is constantly creating stuff pack, expansion packs and new versions of the game. We've done fairly well, holding our own creating new things, but seem to be dying as of late.
Life happens, I get it. But why not share the items for those who are still around to create new things- especially for those that have been gone for years and have no intention of returning. I feel like with everything we've lost with all the old site stored on geocities, we could benefit from sharing what is left.
Mande Sorry about that, I fixed the link. I don't know if anything will ever come of these suggestions or not, but hearing what people think is never a bad thing.
I guess it would depend on how long they were out of the BC? I just wouldn't want someone returning and being offended that all their old bases were being used. I never realized that Bekah was the one who created the bUggs, then left, and that everyone voted on using them as she was gone for so long. Maybe we could do something like that with specific bases of people who are no longer around?
