How do you design a hexie/get all the colors right?

I've been having terrible trouble lately getting all the colors and bmps to match what I want and look good together (hence how absurdly long it takes me to hex ONE KID). What are your tricks, Milkers?

Idk, I have always had a very natural sense of colors and coloring. Like choosing a color scheme is the easiest part of hexing for me.
Here are a few suggestions: if the baby has a theme it's always easy. Like a peacock theme, use turquoise, purples, and greens. You can also take a picture of a baby, and edit the hair and eye color in Photoshop (or whatever graphics program a you prefer) to see how well colors go together. Take a screenshot of the color chart, so you can have the exact colors you'll be working with in game.

tina literally said everything i was coming here to say rofl

but yes themes make it easier and either way i almost always design the baby in photoshop first! i just put the hairstyle on and then take a picture and bring it over to photoshop and mess around until i'm happy with it. then it's easy to just change everything in the file according to what i designed.

like tina i also have a pretty natural sense of aesthetics/what things look good together color-wise! sorry if that is not helpful haha.

Ahhh that's brilliant the photoshop tip! The issue for me is always getting my eyes/hair color exactly right because some things look different in the game from how I was expecting and the game only has 256 colors so obviously it's hard to get an exact eye-color match, for example, but that's so smart - just plunk things into photoshop! that's brilliant, thanks girls!

I have an awful sense of what colors go together, but I was going to say someone in the PC made little color palettes of a few game colors that go together. Which makes it easier to request/make hexies with certain color schemes.
Maybe a bunch of people here could just make little palettes of bmps/colors that go together? Those are always helpful

thanks Rebecca! it's usually not a which go-together kind of issue for me but more of a 'getting the idea into the game and out of my head issue', but those color combos are inspiring regardless !

for me its a lot about play, unlike the designery methods other people employ! very occasionally i will sketch an idea out, but generally speaking i have a very vague image in my head and i just screw around in LNZ pro until it feels finished to me! trying to control my creativity never helps for me so i usually just kind of try to slide back into gut instinct. i look at the baby overall with the view of "whats it missing?"
sometimes scrolling through tattoos or whatever you already have, or ocs on deviantart, can be helpful too if you need inspiration for a hex! <3
