how to make a bmp opaque for tights

I am using PSP9 and was wondering if someone could please tell me how to make a bmp opaque for tights. Thanks.

I use the game white skin color and make a tiny 1 pixel sized checkerboard pattern, where every other pixel is a skin color square, with the tights bmp in the other squares, if that makes sense?

I have one saved with every other square transparent pink and the white skin color, so I can quickly layer it on top of the bmp I'm using for tights.
