we didn't have a good, comprehensive help thread where members' can find answers to issues that come up frequently, so i thought i'd put one together! if you have an issue in the future it is a good idea to check this thread (and the clinic archives!) to see if someone else has had it before you and what was done to resolve it.
installation problems
• installing babyz on windows 10 with no disk
• installing babyz on windows 10 with disk/bypassing autorun
• carolyn's viavoice fix (try first)
• viavoice install fix and microphone workaround
• installing babyz on earlier versions of windows
• installing babyz on mac
• babyz asking for a serial number? that's because you need to have a baby in the game in order to play. simply find a code from here (girls' codes) or here (boys' codes) and paste it into the box. the code you choose will generate a baby! (alternatively you could also find a downloadable baby/any .baby file and put it into your adopted babyz folder.)
debug error
the debug error (also known as "unhandled exception") is the most common babyz error. it is basically an error that pops up on the screen with lots of weird text and says "debug" or "abort" at the bottom. if you get this error, there are a number of ways you can try to fix it.
1. often the culprit of this error could be a hexed toy or piece of clothing you have added recently. try removing all of the hexed clothes and toys (NOT the original game toys as removing those can cause the game to crash as well) and see if it runs then. the error can also happen if you have left a toy out on the floor and then removed it from your game before you put it away so try to remember to clean up toyz before quitting if you are going to be taking things out!
2. if the debug error happens while hexing, you may have made a hexing mistake. if you are hexing a baby, make sure that the addballz are all using textures that exist. for example, if one of your addballs is using texture 26, but there are not 26 textures on the list, that can cause the game to crash. if you are hexing a toy, make sure that you have changed all of the instances of the toy you are hexing off of in hex workshop. more information about both these things can be found in our hexing tutorials.
3. automatic registry reset - hold down ctrl+shift when opening babyz and select "yes" when babyz asks if you would like to clear or reset the registry.
4. if that doesn't work, you can manually reset your computer's registry. to do this, go to your start menu and type "run" and open the application. in the box that pops up, type "regedit". this will bring up the registry editor, which looks like a big window with weird file locations at the side. do a search for "pf magic" "ubisoft" or "mindscape" folders. you can simply delete any of those folders with those names (ONLY the three babyz-related ones i have mentioned, the registry is something you do not want to mess up!) and that will reset your registry. *note* you may not have these folders if you did not install your game using the CD.
5. right click on your babyz.exe application file and select "run as administrator". if the game works after doing that, you can set it to run as administrator all the time by right clicking and selecting properties. the checkbox should be under the compatibility tab.
6. if THAT doesn't work, try moving your game directory to a different place. for example, if it is in your program files, try moving it to my documents or desktop. try launching the game and see if it works.
7. if you installed your game with the CD, you can uninstall and reinstall your game to try and fix it. make sure to restart your computer after both uninstalling it AND reinstalling it.
